Hippotherapy, derived from the Greek word “hippos” meaning horse, refers to treatment that incorporates the movement of the horse as part of a patient’s therapy plan. At Beyond Therapy, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists use evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning to incorporate equine movement into treatment sessions to support sensory, neuromotor, and cognitive development.
Combined with the unique benefits of the equine environment and other therapeutic techniques, hippotherapy is integrated into a patient’s individualized plan of care to help achieve meaningful functional outcomes.
